What this checks — and what it doesn't
This shows the public IP the internet currently sees for you and whether you're reaching sites over IPv6. If you use a VPN, that visible IP should be the VPN's — if it's your own, the tunnel isn't covering this connection.
It is nota full DNS leak test. A real one watches which resolver actually answers your domain lookups, which needs server-side machinery this page doesn't run. We'd rather say that plainly than imply a check we're not doing.
What a DNS leak actually is
Every time you open a site, your device first asks "what's the IP for this domain?" On a VPN, that question should travel through the tunnel. A DNS leak is when it quietly goes to your internet provider's resolver instead — so even with a working VPN, your provider still sees a list of every site you visit.
IPv6 makes it worse: a VPN that only tunnels IPv4 leaves IPv6 lookups (and your IPv6 address) exposed while everything looks fine on the surface.
How to close the gaps
- Use a VPN that forces DNS through its own resolvers and covers IPv6.
- If you don't need IPv6, disabling it removes a whole class of leak.
- On mobile, the deeper fix is at the carrier: an anonymous eSIM means the network account itself isn't tied to your name in the first place.

- What is my IP address?
- It's the public address your network uses to reach the internet — the return address every site needs to send data back to you. It can reveal your rough location and your internet provider, and it's the first thing a VPN is meant to hide.
- What's the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?
- IPv4 is the older, shorter format (like 203.0.113.5); IPv6 is the newer, longer one (like 2001:db8::1). The catch: some VPNs only cover IPv4, so if your connection also has IPv6, your real IPv6 address can leak while the IPv4 one looks protected.
- Is this a full DNS leak test?
- No, and we won't pretend otherwise. A true DNS leak test watches which resolver actually answers your lookups, which needs infrastructure this page doesn't run. This is a visibility check for your IP and IPv6 exposure, plus a plain explainer of how DNS leaks happen — labelled honestly.
